A Pipeline Test Rod is a flat low-density plastic rod — 10.0mm (3/8") wide and 343.0mm (13-1/2") long — with a certified grade 200 precision metal ball enclosed at the insertion end. The flat profile is specifically designed to slip into the narrow gap between a pipeline and the metal detector aperture wall.

To use it, the operator inserts the rod through that gap. If the detector correctly triggers a rejection as the ball passes through, the sensitivity check is passed. The rod exits cleanly without interrupting line flow.

Pipeline Rods are for systems where product travels through a pipe — liquids, slurries, gravity-fall streams, or pumped product. The flat rod profile fits the gap between the pipe and aperture wall.

Standard Rods are for large aperture and tunnel-style conveyor detectors, where the operator manually passes the wand through an open aperture. If your product moves on a belt through a rectangular opening, you need Standard Rods.

Pipeline Rods are designed for the gap between the pipe and the aperture wall, not for insertion into the product flow itself. For pressurized systems, the test is typically performed by inserting the rod into the gap at the detector head while flow is briefly paused or at a scheduled validation interval — following the procedure outlined by your metal detector manufacturer.

• Aluminum (AL) — 2.79g/cc. For facilities with aluminum equipment or foil packaging.

Most food safety programs require validation with all three contaminant categories (Fe, NFe, SS). Stainless steel SS316 is typically the performance benchmark — if your system detects it at the required size, it will detect Fe and NFe at smaller sizes.
